In this Soap Story, I share the inspiration behind Ann's Wood Butter and the wonder I felt when I discovered how well it treated wooden cutting boards.

Ann Coffman, a friend of mine, asked me some time ago to make her a conditioning butter for her new wood cutting board. I had seen an article somewhere on wood butter and the benefits of conditioning your wood utensils and cutting boards with it.
Thinking back on my use of cutting boards, I used plastic or glass now, but when I was first married, I had a wooden cutting board. Had I known then how to take care of it, I probably would have had it a lot longer than I did.
I decided to make a batch of Ann's Wood Butter and see how it worked. I used a simple recipe of equal parts beeswax and coconut oil, melted together and then cooled. I applied a thin coat of the butter to Ann's cutting board and let it sit for a few hours.
The next day, I wiped off the excess butter and then used the cutting board for the first time. I was amazed at how much smoother it was than before! The butter had really helped to protect the wood and keep it from drying out.
I'm so glad I made Ann's Wood Butter! It's a simple way to keep your wooden utensils and cutting boards in good condition. And it smells great too!
I use Ann’s Wood Butter on my cutting boards and wooden spoons. It works like a charm. I don’t bother wearing gloves when applying it as it softens my hands at the same time!
